MTNL: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited
The full form of MTNL is Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited. It is a state-owned telecommunications service provider primarily in the metro cities of India; Mumbai and Delhi including the adjoining cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Faridabad, etc. MTNL is present in Nepal through its joint venture United Telecom Limited (UTL) and in Mauritius through its subsidiary Mahanagar Telephone Mauritius Limited (MTML). Its motto is “Transparency makes us different”. It was founded on 1 April 1986, as of April 2020, Sunil Kumar is the Chairman & MD of MTNL. It is regulated by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India).
MTNL is the largest ISP in Mumbai and Delhi (in terms of market share). MTNL offers fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) triple play (voice, video, and data) high-speed broadband service. It also provides other services such as VPN, VOIP, and leased lines through BSNL and VSNL. On the 23rd day of October 2019, Ministry of Communications decided to merge of MTNL with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. After this merger, MTNL will be a subsidiary of BSNL.
