INR: Indian Rupee
The full form of INR is “Indian Rupee“. It is the official currency of India. The Indian rupee (INR) derives its name from the rupee, a silver coin first issued by Sultan Sher Shah Suri in the 16th century, worth 40 pieces of copper per rupee. Paper rupees were issued in 1770, during and after British rule. The rupee is subdivided into 100 paise, although as of 2020, currencies with the denomination of 1 rupee are the lowest value in use.
The Indian rupee is available in denominations of coins and notes The denomination of the coin has 1, 2, 5, 10 rupee coins and the denomination of the notes contains 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 2000 rupee notes. The issuance of the INR currency is controlled by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The symbol of the Indian rupee “₹” is adopted by the Government of India in 2010. It was derived from the combination of the Devanagari consonant “र” (ra) and the Latin capital letter “R” without its vertical bar. The notes are frequently updated with new designs, which include distinctive differences from the old series of Mahatma Gandhi notes to the new ones of the same name. The notes include various themes of the rich heritage of India.
