SSC: Staff Selection Commission

In the Indian Government, SSC stands for Staff Selection Commission. SSC is an organization under the Government of India to recruit staff for various posts in various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in subordinate offices. The Commission conducts examinations/selections for recruitment to all Group “B” posts which are in the pay scales the maximum of which is Rs. 10, 500 or below and all Group “C” non-technical posts in the Ministries/Departments of the Govt. from time to time. Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is entrusted with the task of conducting departmental examinations for promotion from Group D to LDC Grade, promotion from LDC to UDC Grade and for promotion from Stenographer Grade D to Stenographer Grade C.

What is the eligibility for Staff Selection Commission?

Eligibility criteria vary as per the post for SSC CGL exam. Candidates applying must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Before filling the SSC CGL application form, candidates must fulfil the following eligibility norms:

Nationality Criteria

A candidate must be either Indian Citizen or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee (who moved with an intention to permanently settle in India before 1962) or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention to permanently settle in India.

Age Limit Criteria

• The lower and upper limit of age varies post-wise.
• Applicants’ age mentioned in the 10th/12th certificates will be considered.
• The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has revised the age limit for the post of Tax Assistant (under CBEC Group C). Earlier the age limit was 20 to 27 years, however, now the age limit for this post has been revised to 18 to 27 years.

Secondary School Certificate

In the Education field, SSC full form is Secondary School Certificate. SSC is also known as School Certificate Examination or Matriculation Examination. In India, it is also known as 10th Board Exam. It is a public examination conducted by various boards of education including CBSE and state boards for students of class 10. In India, 10th board exam is usually conducted in March/April by most of the education board of India. An exam schedule is issued by the board at least one month before the exam. Class 10 board exam results are usually declared in May/June.
