OEM: Original Equipment Manufacturer

https://fullform.blog/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Original-Equipment-Manufacturer.mp3

The full form of OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer. OEMs are typically manufacturers who resell another company’s product under their own name and branding. For example, most of the PC vendors such as Apple, HP, Lenovo and Dell who don’t have their own manufacturing units are OEMs. They assemble the manufacturer’s components and brand the end product with their own logo. Its meaning has evolved over time. In earlier times, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) referred to a company that manufactures products to be used as components by another company in its end products. For example, if Acme Manufacturing Co. manufactures power cords to be used on Dell computers then Acme is the OEM. The term is really a misnomer because OEMs are not the original manufacturers; they customize the original product.
