UKG: Upper Kindergarten
The full form of UKG is “Upper Kindergarten“. Kindergarten is a preschool educational approach traditionally based on playing, singing, practical activities such as drawing, and social interaction as part of the transition from home to school. The upper kindergarten (UKG) stage is a more controlled and structured environment and children will be able to advance skills that they have acquired at the LKG level. Children learn to read and write and the methods used are innovative, and this may vary from school to school.
The teaching approach used in UKG is usually child centric. The attention span of children is quite limited and all schools focus on this aspect during the Upper Kindergarten stage. Teachers mostly adopt an individualistic approach for specific children during the period, especially for complex subjects such as mathematics. The concepts that are learned during the UKG will help the child when it will move to 1st standard of primary education.
