BAMS: Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery
The full form of BAMS is Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. It is a five-and-a-half-year medical course, which includes a one-year internship. Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is a medical degree in India, awarded to those who have studied the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional Ayurveda. Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of medicine and has its roots in Vedic times. It is based on the healing properties of herbs and their medications are known for the natural elements they contain.
Eligibility Criteria
- To pursue the BAMS course in Indian colleges/ universities, aspirants should clear 12th class in the Science stream with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) subjects.
- In most cases, the minimum percentage that students require in Class XII to be eligible for BAMS course admissions is 50% to 60%. However, the minimum percentage criteria changes depending on a college/ university policy.
- Some universities may also have minimum age bar as their BAMS eligibility criteria.
Applicants who meet the above eligibility criteria must attend the NEET ( National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) and qualify it. Admission to the BAMS course is through centralized counseling, based on the NEET Merit List. The curriculum of the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course contains an in-depth study of Ayurvedic subjects, along with the study of modern anatomy, principle of modern medicines, principle of surgery, ENT, pharmacology and many more.
