BDS: Bachelor Of Dental Surgery
The full form of BDS is Bachelor Of Dental Surgery. It is a five-year undergraduate (UG) course in Dentistry. Dentistry is a branch of medicine that deals with the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases that affect the teeth, gums, jaw, and other structures of the mouth. The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) consists of a four-year training and a mandatory one-year internship. In addition to treating tooth decay, the BDS course also emphasizes dentures, surgery, and various dental problems. After completing your BDS, you are qualified to practice as a dentist.
Students who have passed the 10+2 exam in the science stream with physics, chemistry and biology are eligible for this course. These students must appear and clear the BDS entrance test, which can be at the state or national level. NEET is the national level exam to apply for BDS admissions. These admission tests are taken by various colleges and universities that offer the BDS course. The average fee for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery ranges from INR 50,000 to INR 12 lakhs. After completing the BDS, you can work in dental clinics, hospitals, international welfare organizations, Indian armed forces, and research laboratories.
