The full form of MRI is Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It is also called NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging) or MRT (Magnetic Resonance Tomography). It is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to examine organs and structures within the body. Magnetic resonance imaging uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs, soft tissues, and skeletal system of the body. Magnetic resonance imaging does not involve X-rays or the use of ionizing radiation, which distinguishes it from CT and PET scans.

There is a wide range of applications for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in medical diagnosis. It is used to detect diseases very precisely in the human body. It can be used to diagnose: Brain Tumors, Trauma to the head or brain, Spine problems, Heart problems and strokes, Joints and bones, Abnormalities of brain and spinal cord, Liver and other abdominal diseases, Uterine abnormalities in women. MRI scan is safer than CT Scan because it doesn’t expose potentially harmful radiation to either patient or technician, But it is costlier than CT scan.
