PCO: Public Call Office
The full form of PCO is Public Call Office. It is a location in the public area that provides a telephone facility in India and Pakistan. It was a high in demand and efficient medium for accessible communication before the telecommunications revolution. R. L. Dube, an officer in the Department of Telecommunications, introduced the concept of Public Call Office (PCO) in India. There are two types of PCO: fixed and wireless. Wireless PCOs use two technologies: CDMA and GSM. BSNL, a public sector company, has the largest PCO installation in India. Today, everyone has a cell phone, even a smartphone, but this was not common a few years ago. At that time, the PCO provides an accessible communication platform where it is needed.
