RAF: Rapid Action Force
The full form of RAF is “Rapid Action Force“. It is a specialized wing of the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) of India raised in Oct. 1992 to deal with riot and crowd control situations. Rapid Action Force (RAF) units were set up to deal with riots and riot-like situations, to instill confidence amongst all sections of the society and also, handle internal security duty.
The RAF has a distinctive uniform with a blue-colored camouflage pattern which symbolizes peace. Its motto is “Serving Humanity with Sensitive Policing”. In Delhi RAF is headed by an IGP (Inspector-General of Police). It currently has 15 specialized trained and equipped battalions each battalion is headed by a CO (Commanding Officer). Salary of RAF personnel is 1.8 lakhs per annum to Rs. 4.5 lakhs with grade pay. This is exclusive of perks such as medical allowance, travel expense reimbursement, free ration, etc. A lucrative pay and generous perks make RAF job a sought-after profession.
