The full form of NIA is “National Investigation Agency”. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is a central agency established by the Indian Government to combat terror in India. The main objective of creating NIA was to have a specialized agency to investigate various incidents of terrorist attacks and IED explosions in various parts of the country. The NIA agency is empowered to deal with terror-related crimes in the states without special permission from the states. It acts as the central counter-terrorism law enforcement agency. The agency came into existence with the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Bill 2008, an Act passed by the Parliament of India on 31 December 2008. As on December 2021 Mr.Kuldeep Singh, IPS is the Director-General of National Investigation Agency (NIA).
