What is the full form of IFSC?
The full form of IFSC is Indian Financial System Code. It is an 11 character alphanumeric code used to identify each branch of every bank in India. You can easily identify a bank and its branch from the given IFSC code. This code is specified on the cheque book and required to transfer money through NEFT or RTGS.
IFSC Code Format
IFSC code has 11 characters. The first 4 characters indicate the name of the bank and the last 7 characters indicate the branch number. For example:
Canara Bank Bhagalpur Collectorate branch IFSC Code: CNRB0008661.
Here “CNRB” shows the name of the bank and “0008661” shows the branch number. IFSC code is used to transfer money from one branch to another through IMPS, NEFT or RTGS, i.e. to facilitate the transfer of funds online and electronically.
